Best Ever DIY Anti-Aging Beauty Balm

Children do not appreciate their beautiful skin. It’s like yes, little Kiki, go poop your pants in the sandbox with your flawless, poreless face while I go try to pick up a man with three crow’s feet, a forehead full of wrinkles, and a nice little touch of discoloration. Unfairness I tell you.

I’m 28 and I haven’t tried botox or any of that yet (not that I won’t, I’ve just yet to do it – I will let you know when I do). What I have tried is almost every anti-aging product at Sephora and I’m still convinced that DIY is the way to go.

I used to be very conscious of the ingredients in my skincare products, then when I started getting wrinkles, I was like whatever, I will put a dang dog turd on my face if it makes my skin look better. It turns out though that clean, natural ingredients and results really do go hand in hand.

A lot of natural products leave out an essential component though – essential oils (pun intended). So while some of these products certainly aren’t bad and do have some skin benefits, they aren’t very potent because they’re lacking a key helper. I mean, I don’t know about y’all but I like results (instant ones, at that. I’m very impatient).

In Biblical times, essential oils were used as medicine and skincare. They didn’t pop a man-made pill when they had a headache or rub Retin-A on their face for clear skin, they used ingredients given to them directly by God. He is the Great Physician, after all. And unlike man-made products, they don’t just suppress symptoms, they actually cure them.

Now, I’m not saying there’s a cure for age. Chuggin’ a bottle of lavender ain’t gon turn you into Benjamin Button. Age actually, in itself, is such a blessing. Yeah, wrinkles suck, especially when the world expects us to look like an airbrushed unicorn, but having another day with your friends and spouses and babies and brothers and sisters and mamas and daddies – that’s precious, and shouldn’t be taken for granted.

But we’re also human and like to feel confident in our appearance. Essential oils contain so many extra anti-aging properties not found in anything else – like unreal amounts of antioxidants (which are basically little warriors against the aging process), instant frequency balancing (the lower your body frequency, the more prone you are to sickness), crazy oxygen radical absorbance capacity scores, and so many more.

Bottom line, your skincare routine should have some essential oils in it.

Okay, now for the fun part:

(I’ve tried all the essential oils and researched all the different brands and found that Young Living is the the purest – they have their own fields and do not source from other places. They are also aware of the Biblical principals relating to the oils, which I think is really cool. You can order them here. You can also sign up to be a member, if you want to.)

Depending on the batch size you want to make, the amount of each ingredient varies. I gave these as Christmas presents, so I did sort of a big batch, but if you just want to make a small jar for yourself, I’d do about 3 tablespoons coconut oil, 2 tablespoons lanolin (this stuff is really sticky, be prepared. But it’s awesome and locks in the essential oils and makes your skin so soft), 5 drops Essential Beauty Serum, 1 drop Cedarwood, 2 drops Lavender, 1 drop Frankincense (don’t over-do it on this one or it will dry your skin out).

Heat the coconut oil and lanolin first until they’re melted, then add the essential oils. Pour into a little jar (I like the tin ones because they’re cute – got them on Amazon a while back) and put in the refrigerator (or freezer if you want it done faster, just don’t forget about it  or you’ll have a beauty ice cube instead) until it turns solid. It won’t stay completely solid, it will turn salve-like once it goes back to room temperature.

I pile this on my face at night and wake up with the softest skin. It makes my face look so much more plump and hydrated. You can also use it anywhere you have dry skin. I’ve used it all over my body, it’s awesome.

(Na ni na ni boo boo, Kiki! I got smooth skin too. Sandbox poopin’ is all you though girl.)
